Data review: eCommerce technologies of big web shops in Finland 2020

This year our eCommerce data review consists of 299 web shops. The criteria were the same as last years: The annual turnover of the company behind the web shop must exceed one million euros. Also, the selection must be reasonably large. Selling just gift cards is not enough.

The amount of different eCommerce platforms has decreased from last years 50 to 48 even though our sample size is a little bit bigger. The change is small, but a clear sign of concentration to fewer technological solutions. The market share of small platforms has constantly decreased and most likely the same trend will continue in the future too. Content management system market shares in biggest Nordic companies

The Nordic championship in the heavyweight company series is a game of two. Episerver wins by 19 percent market share. The second place belongs to WordPress with about 17 percent. Drupal, taking the third place, must settle for 7 percent share. Just behind the last medal position follows tightly Sitecore just 0.1 percent behind Drupal, Umbraco with 5 percent share and tailor-made solutions with almost 5 percent share. Peculiarity of Finland: Liferay a popular web content management system

Liferay is slowly becoming more popular in Finland at the moment. Public administration in particular is attracted to this Java portal with a long history. There is even an attempt to make Liferay a widely used common web content management system for governmental organizations. Ministries, in particular, clearly consider Liferay the default CMS choice for new online services at present. The Lutheran church, for example, also has selected Liferay as the common web content management system for its parishes.

Web CMS market trends in Finland 2013

This article summarizes a few trends that have been fairly strong in Finland during the last two years or so. Somewhat similar trends can also be seen happening elsewhere in Scandinavia, but this article focuses specifically on Finland.

Strongest trends are the steady the rise of WordPress and Drupal. Bigger players like Microsoft, Oracle and Sitecore still have trouble in getting traction on the market in Finland. Even frameworks like Django seem to be challenging the traditional players when it comes to choosing technology to power world-class web presences. Especially the growth of mobile is driving big web renewals, but the Web CMS products don’t seem to have much to offer when it comes to building these highly responsive websites.
